Martin Luther King Day Santa Monica marks the holiday with a multiethnic, interfaith program of entertainment and inspiration. The celebration, one of the West Coast’s largest, includes a morning of music and dance performances, educational readings and awards, plus featured speaker Congresswoman Janice Hahn. Kingdom Day Parade In celebration of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., Angelenos will line his namesake street for this annual parade featuring floats, marching bands, drill teams, dance groups, special guests and a festival in Leimert Park. L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas will serve as grand marshal. Martin Luther King Boulevard at Western Avenue to Crenshaw Boulevard at Vernon Avenue, L.A. 11 a.m.

COMEDY

Portlandia: The Tour The lovingly satirical show about provincial hipsterdom takes its act on the road. Actors Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein will play some music (Brownstein, a member of Wild Flag and formerly of Sleater-Kinney, is especially welcome to do so), screen clips of the show and tell stories from the set.
