Jessica Simpson’s parents Tina and Joe Simpson file for divorce

Jessica Simpson’s mom and dad are calling it quits: Joe and Tina Simpson have filed for divorce.

“It is an amicable split and there is no third party involved,” the family rep told People. “Any other related allegations are completely false. The family appreciates your respect for their privacy at this time.”

Those “related allegations” refer to a National Enquirer story claiming that Simpson’s father Joe is gay and that’s why his wife filed for divorce last month, a story the Enquirer attributes to a “family insider.”

Back to facts we actually know: Papa Joe, 54, is Jessica’s former manager and used to be a minister. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Sherman Oaks in early August and was ordered by a judge to stay away from alcohol. He has pleaded not guilty.

Tina, 52, claimed that their marriage was beyond reconciliation in the court docs obtained by TMZ.

“The marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities ... that destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation,” court documents said.

The couple married on Aug. 19, 1978, and are parents to Jessica, who divorced 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey in 2006, and her younger sister Ashlee Simpson, who finalized her divorce from rocker Pete Wentz in late 2011. The couple has two grandchildren: Jessica’s baby girl Maxwell Drew Johnson and Ashlee’s son Bronx Mowgli Wentz.

Tina and Joe played active roles in launching their daughters’ music careers and apparently acquired quite a few assets over the years. The petition asks that Tina and Joe divide up their estate and keep Tina’s separate properties out of the agreement. Documents did not say what those properties were.
