Quick Takes: SAG Awards move up

Hollywood hasn’t even finished this awards season but it’s already casting a glance ahead to 2014, and the calendar may be shifting earlier.

The Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will be Feb. 7 to 23, 2014. On Friday, word came that the Screen Actors Guild Awards — which generally take place the last Sunday in January — will be moving to Jan. 18.

“We programmed the SAG Awards on Saturday, Jan. 18 due to the Winter Olympics and NFL schedules, which are contributing to a shortened 2014 award season,” said a representative for TNT/TBS, which broadcasts the show. The 2014 Super Bowl is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2.

The question now is whether the SAG move will have a ripple effect on the Golden Globes and Oscars. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. has yet to announce its 2014 date for the Golden Globes, but that ceremony historically takes place before the SAG Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hasn’t announced a 2014 date, either. The academy shifted the Oscars from March to late February in 2004, but has returned to March during Olympic years.

It isn’t just movie awards that are feeling the Olympics pressure. The Grammy Awards, which are taking place this Sunday, also don’t want competition from sports next year. There are unconfirmed reports that the Grammys may move up to January next year, with Jan. 26 a possible date.

Joey Ramone items for auction

Joey Ramone’s vinyl record collection, two electric guitars, a leather jacket, his passport, Rolodex, T-shirts and other items will be auctioned off by the late singer’s estate.

A minimum bid of $500 is attached to the collection of nearly 100 LPs, including albums by Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, the Who,Bob

Dylan, Donovan, the Beach Boys, and Jimi Hendrix, that were owned and presumably played by Ramone, who died at 49 in 2001 of lymphoma.

The guitars, the jacket and the passport each have a minimum bid of $300, while bidding on his stash of 140 T-shirts begins at $500.

The items will be auctioned online by RR Auction beginning Thursday and continuing through Feb. 21. The items are said to include letters of authenticity from Ramone’s brother, Mickey Hyman, through the Joey Ramone Estate.

Bassey, Oscars finally bond

This year’s Academy Awards just got another touch of gold, and not from the Oscar statuettes.

Shirley Bassey, the voice behind the iconic theme songs for the James Bond films “Goldfinger,” “Diamonds Are Forever” and “Moonraker,” will make her first appearance at the awards this month, the show’s producers announced on Friday.

Bassey is slated to perform and will undoubtedly add some fire to the academy’s planned tribute to 007.

The franchise is celebrating 50 years on the big screen and Bassey’s scorching themes are among some of the most well-known.

While Bassey, whose career has spanned more than six decades, never scored an Oscar for her Bond themes, “Skyfall,” the Adele-sung theme song for last year’s Bond film is the front-runner for original song.

The Oscars will air on Feb. 24 on ABC.

State arts group leader to leave

The California Arts Council, the state agency that oversees arts grants, expects to get new leadership next week when Santa Monica painter and art entrepreneur Malissa Feruzzi Shriver steps down.

Shriver is married to former Santa Monica Mayor Bobby Shriver, and was appointed to the arts council by her then-brother-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

She specializes in custom re-creations of Old Master oil paintings, selling them through Feruzzi Fine Art.

‘Moon River’ paid for fine art

Andy Williams’ song repertoire was all American — but his art tastes were eclectic.

Christie’s will be auctioning his collection in May.

It’s expected to generate $30 million.

The late singer’s art works included contemporary, impressionist, modern, Latin American and 20th century decorative art and design.

Among the highlights are pieces by Willem de Kooning, Richard Diebenkorn, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Picasso.

Williams died last year at age 84.
