‘30 Rock’ cast reunites, reminisces on ‘Late Night’

The “30 Rock” series finale doesn’t air until Jan. 31, but for the cast of the acclaimed sitcom, the fun ended last month when they wrapped production on the series after seven seasons on NBC. Cast members Tracy Morgan, Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer and Jane Krakowski came together Thursday night for what is hoped will be the first of many reunions.

The entire ensemble sat down with Jimmy Fallon for a lengthy look back at the series. It was an unusual format for a late-night talk show – more “Oprah” than “Late Night” – but for “30 Rock” fans it was a treat. Each cast member shared a favorite clip from the series, and there were even some very, very mild spoilers about the upcoming finale.

As Fey explained that whenever a cast member was filming his or her final scene, everyone would gather around to watch. When Fey filmed her final scene, she was quickly surrounded by about a hundred cast and crew members even though she was “running on a treadmill for five seconds” with no lines.

Other revelations from the conversation: Lorne Michaels originally wanted to call Morgan’s character “Boo Boo Jordan”; a porn star who played the Liz Lemon character in a “30 Rock” spoof once approached Baldwin at a gym in the Valley; and the cast had to consume vast amounts of coffee in order to deliver their lightning-fast banter.

While no tears were shed on “Late Night,” Morgan did provide an almost heartfelt rendition of “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” posted above. “30 Rock” fans ought to check out the entire episode.
