‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’ trailer: Katniss will lead them
The Mockingjay has landed.
Jennifer Lawrence is back as the reluctant revolutionary Katniss Everdeen in the new teaser trailer for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -- Part 1,” and she’s a symbol of hope for the rebellion in post-apocalyptic Panem.
The trailer for the film, which is set to open Nov. 21, finds former games maker Plutarch Heavensbee (the late Philip Seymour Hoffman) and rebel leader Alma Coin (Julianne Moore) arguing about the defiant young heroine.
“No one else can do this but her,” Heavensbee says of Katniss, adding that she’s “the face of this rebellion.” But Coin disagrees: “She won’t be able to handle it. The Games destroyed her.”
Katniss finally appears at the end of the minute-long clip and does indeed look shellshocked. But when asked by a young insurgent if she’ll fight with them, she replies, “I will.”
“Mockingjay -- Part 1” marks the third installment of the blockbuster “Hunger Games” series, based on the bestselling young-adult novels by Suzanne Collins. The previous two films have proved massively popular, combining to gross more than $1.55 billion at the worldwide box office and vaulting Lawrence to international superstardom.
Francis Lawrence, who directed the previous film, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” is returning for the final two chapters, “Mockingjay -- Part 1” and “Part 2,” with the latter set to open next year.
