Movies are a great gift any time of the year, but there are some swell items that make them especially attractive for holiday giving.

Most impressive is ESPN’s massive and enthralling “30 for 30 Fifth Anniversary Collection,” which puts the entire series of more than 100 films onto 32 discs, all handsomely housed in a metal sports locker container. With a T-shirt thrown into the bargain.

If you are looking for a film-related item that involves zero discs, you couldn’t do better than “Criterion Designs,” a splendid coffee table book that showcases covers, sketches and concept art that Criterion commissioned for its peerless series of DVD and Blu-ray re-releases.

And if something smaller is more your speed, there is a 75th-anniversary Blu-ray release of the classic “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” as well as a Blu-ray release of an underappreciated Christmas classic, Mitchell Leisen’s “Remember the Night,” starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray.
