Screenwriter April Prosser’s comedy “Plus One” has found its partner: The Weinstein Co. has acquired rights to the film, which is being produced by Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum and Adam McKay.

“Plus One” will be made under the trio’s Gloria Sanchez banner, the new division of Gary Sanchez Productions formed earlier this year to create female-focused film and TV projects.

Prosser’s script tells the story of Rachel, a woman who comes out of a long-term relationship only to realize all her friends have married and she has no single gals left to be her wingwoman -- except for one loud, oversharing wild card named Summer.

“Plus One” will mark the second feature to go into development for Prosser; her screenplay “The One That Got Away” landed on the Black List in 2012 and is being produced by Mason Novick and directed by Ari Sandel at Amazon Studios.

Weinstein Co. Co-chairman Harvey Weinstein said in a statement that Prosser’s “Plus One” script “drew one of the strongest responses from our team that I’ve seen in a while.” He added, “Female-driven comedies continue to be a tremendously exciting force in film these days and we couldn’t be more delighted to be behind one of this caliber.”
