‘Prisoners’ trailer: Hugh Jackman gets his revenge on

It’s every parent’s worst nightmare: the disappearance of a child. It’s also the subject of the new movie “Prisoners,” starring Hugh Jackman, Viola Davis and Jake Gyllenhaal. If there’s any comfort to be gleaned from the trailer, it’s that Jackman is on the warpath to find his girl after the efforts of cop Gyllenhaal are not proving very effective.

This project has had a lot of fits and starts on its way to the big screen. A hot property since the script from Aaron Guzikowski (“Contraband”) landed on “The Black List” (the coveted list of the best unproduced scripts of the year) in 2009, there has been a slew of director/actor combinations lined up over the years. First, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale came aboard to star in the film with Bryan Singer directing.

When the two leads left for “The Fighter,” Singer went too, eventually to be replaced by Antoine Fuqua. (Wahlberg turned to Guzikowski to write “Contraband” after being impressed by his “Prisoners” script.)

Hugh Jackman then signed on, with a January 2010 start. Fuqua left. Leonardo DiCaprio was briefly attached, but that never panned out.

Things finally started coming together in April 2011, when “Incendies” director Denis Villeneuve came aboard, after receiving strong reviews for his Middle Eastern-set drama that landed him an Oscar nomination for foreign language film.

Gyllenhaal joined Jackman the following year with Davis following soon after. Maria Bello and Terrence Howard are also part of the ensemble.

The film was shot in Atlanta and will be released by Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros. at the end of September.
