Momentum appears to be building for a reunion of surviving Doors members Robby Krieger and John Densmore to perform together in memory of the group’s keyboardist, Ray Manzarek, who died of cancer in May at age 74.

Densmore told The Times recently that he hoped to come together with Krieger to play music again.

“I said to Robby recently, ‘Why don’t we in the near future maybe have a reunion and play some Doors songs in honor of Ray with some great local musicians?’ ” Densmore said in June.

Now, Krieger has told Rolling Stone that he’s also up for the idea.

“We’re going to do at least one show for Ray and have a big send-off,” Krieger told the magazine. “That’s either the start or the end of it, I don’t know.”

Densmore had a falling out with Krieger and Manzarek more than a decade ago when the latter two started touring as the Doors of the 21st Century. Densmore successfully blocked them from using the Doors name, and also won the countersuit Krieger and Manzarek filed against him for withholding his consent to license Doors’ songs for commercials.

But the three had begun to move beyond the bad feelings generated by the litigation.

“The healing between me and Ray and Robby had already begun before Ray passed,” Densmore said last month ahead of a signing event for his book chronicling the court actions, “The Doors Unhinged: Jim Morrison’s Legacy Goes on Trial,” “and that feels good.”
