A one-on-one with Donald Trump may have drawn most viewers to Megyn Kelly’s first prime-time network special on Fox, but the undercard with Robert Shapiro was surely a close second.

One of the high-powered attorneys who represented O.J. Simpson during a double-murder trial that captivated popular culture in 1995, Shapiro appeared on Kelly’s Tuesday night show to speak about the trial, which returned to the zeitgeist in the wake of the FX series “The People v. O.J. Simpson.”

In addition to recounting some his legal strategy (“O.J. Simpson has enormous hands and I knew that the glove would not fit him. No question about it,” he said) and a bit of fond reminiscing about outmaneuvering prosecutor Marcia Clark, Shapiro also revealed to Kelly what Simpson whispered in his ear when the jury returned a not guilty verdict.

“You had told me this would be the result from the beginning,” Shapiro remembered. “You were right.”

While the quote is a little underwhelming given the buildup to Kelly’s interview, it’s ultimately consistent with Shapiro, who if nothing else never seemed short on confidence during the Simpson trial or in its remembrance.

Now that this has been settled, maybe we can next put Kelly on figuring out what Bill Murray said to Scarlett Johansson at the end of “Lost in Translation.”
