‘America loved Alan Thicke’: Entertainers react to the ‘Growing Pains’ actor’s death

As news of Alan Thicke's death spread, fellow stars shared their remembrances and condolences on social media, recalling his love of hockey and praising him for his role as beloved dad Jason Seaver on the hit ’80s sitcom “Growing Pains.”

Leonardo DiCaprio, who appeared on “Growing Pains” early in his career, released a statement on Facebook Wednesday morning. “Fuller House” co-stars Bob Saget and Candace Cameron Bure (sister of Thicke’s TV son Kirk Cameron, who also shared his thoughts), Chrissy Metz (star of “This is Us,”  on which Thicke had recently appeared), talk-show hosts Arsenio Hall and Ellen DeGeneres, musician John Legend, Wiliam Shatner,  Demi Lovato and the L.A. Kings were among those saying goodbye to the Canadian actor, host, writer, producer and musician. Fellow Canadian Anne Murray noted that Thicke wrote and produced many of her TV specials.

His son, pop-soul singer-songwriter Robin Thicke, speaking to The Times, called him “The greatest man I ever met” and said that his father “passed peacefully and surrounded by love.”

Thicke died Tuesday from a heart attack at the age of 69.
