WGN America has ordered the 10-part scripted series “Ten Commandments” from Weinstein Co. The ambitious project, to be shown over 10 nights, will feature 10 noted filmmakers, each putting a modern interpretation on a different commandment.

Gus Van Sant (“Milk”), Lee Daniels (“Lee Daniels’ ‘The Butler’ ”), Jim Sheridan (“In the Name of the Father”), Wes Craven (“Scream”) and Michael Cera (“Juno”) are among the filmmakers signed to the series. Oscar-winning producer Bruce Cohen and Bob Weinstein will produce.

“The unique structure of the ’10 Commandments’ project and the stature of directors involved reflects the creative and bold approach to quality programming that we aspire to as we move toward making WGN America a destination network,” Matt Cherniss, president and general manager of WGN America and Tribune Studios, said in a statement.
