ABC cancels ‘Red Widow’ and ‘How to Live...’

ABC is clearly seeing red, axing two more shows: “Red Widow” and “How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life.”

Based on the Dutch format, “Red Widow” had a lackluster midseason launch, averaging a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5 million viewers. The series starred Rahda Mitchell as a stay-at-home mom who finds herself embroiled in familial ties with the Russian mob. The thriller completed its eight-episode run Sunday.

Breath-catcher “How to Live With Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life” also won’t return for another season. The semi-autobiographical comedy from Claudia Lonow starred Sarah Chalke (“Scrubs”) as a single mom who moves back in with her parents, played by Elizabeth Perkins (“Weeds”) and Brad Garrett (“Everybody Loves Raymond”). After a decent launch in late April taking over “Suburgatory’s” post-“Modern Family” time slot, the comedy lost steam -- especially when “Modern Family” was in repeats. The comedy averaged 7 million viewers and a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demo during its stunted run.

Still awaiting final confirmation are freshman series “The Neighbors,” which looks poised to be renewed, and “Family Tools,” which is expected to get the cut. Final decisions might not come until Monday.

Let’s recap the network’s decisions, for our sanity (and those keeping score):

Returning shows include “Castle,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Revenge,” “Nashville,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Scandal,” “Last Man Standing,” “Modern Family,” “The Middle,” and Suburgatory.” Shows the network has canceled are “Malibu Country,” “Happy Endings,” “How To Live with Your Parents for the Rest of Your Life,” “Body of Proof,” and “Red Widow.”
