Late night gift Brian Williams slow jams the news again with Fallon

Brian Williams is the late night gift that keeps on giving.

It’s not that the anchor of the “NBC Nightly News” is a buffoon who creates ready-made punchlines for the two Jimmys, Dave and the rest. No, Williams’ power is his ability to combine his stoic, “serious man of the news” persona with the goofy antics of late night TV.

On “The Tonight Show,” Jimmy Fallon has gotten a lot of mileage out of editing clips of the news together to make it appear as though Williams is working his way through the classics of rap and hip-hop, but Williams is more than willing to play the joke himself. Witness the latest installment of Slow Jam the News that aired Tuesday.

Williams and Fallon, along with the house band The Roots, tackled the tricky subject of immigration and President Obama’s executive action. Along the way, Williams managed to work in his own spin on Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 hit “Baby Got Back.”

And yes, he even managed to plug his daughter Allison Williams’ turn as Peter Pan in the live “Peter Pan” musical airing Thursday on NBC.

What a good dad.

Let’s see Scott Pelley try to top that.
