“Sharknado” was an unexpected social media hit. The sequel did not disappoint. Did you really think there wouldn’t be a “Sharknado 3?”

Syfy made the announcement as part of its TCA Winter Press Tour on Thursday. And fans won’t need to worry that they’ll have to wait long for it — the film is expected to premiere on Syfy in July

This will be the third straight summer that Syfy has aired a “Sharknado” movie. The last one was Syfy most-watched original movie, with 3.9 million viewers in its first showing. At this point, even your grandmother is planning to live tweet the threequel.

Original series star Ian Ziering and Tara Reid are returning, as are director Anthony C. Ferrante and screenwriter Thunder Levin.

The original took place in Los Angeles, and the sequel took place in New York City with a host of cameos, including Matt Lauer and Judd Hirsch. The third one will take place in Washington, D.C.

It goes without saying that all involved will need to top themselves once again for the third film, but when the first movie involves a man cutting himself alive out of a shark with a chainsaw, the mind boggles at what they have in store.
