Social media has cast a spotlight on makeup artists.

They doll up Hollywood's biggest names and use Instagram to show you behind-the-scenes photos of the beautiful and famous. They'll also show you looks you've never seen before -- and may give you inspiration to switch up your own style:

If you love makeup, these are some of the artists you need to follow on the popular photo-sharing platform:

Mario Dedivanovic
He calls Kim Kardashian "his muse" and they have joined forces to create tutorials on one of makeup's hottest trends: Contouring. Their class in Pasadena drew hundreds of Kardashian fans and makeup artists from all over the world who paid hundreds of dollars for entry. Another class is scheduled for next month in New York.

Joyce Bonelli
Bonelli is also a favorite in the Kardashian family. Her signature look? Lips. Bonelli's own blond locks were the inspiration for Kim Kardashian brief platinum stint.

Charlotte Tilbury
The British makeup artist also has her own beauty line, and her specialty is bringing out the eyes. Her site includes tips on how to achieve the perfect look.

Pat McGrath
McGrath is highly regarded by fashion powerhouses such as Vogue. She is the creative design director of Procter and Gamble's beauty department, overseeing brands like Max Factor and Cover Girl. She gives up-and-coming makeup artists a chance through Instagram contests.

Patrick Ta
The Arizona native started just two years ago, doing makeup for Arizona State University sorority girls. Once he moved to L.A., his Instagram account opened the door to Hollywood.
