After months of speculation about his future, Hedi Slimane, the designer who created the slim look that has dominated men’s wear for the past few years and been a favorite with rockers such as David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Justin Timberlake, is out at Dior Homme. He will be replaced by Belgian designer Kris van Assche who worked with Slimane at Dior and Yves Saint Laurent.

Slimane’s contract ended last July and talks have been going on since. Dior owner Sidney Toledano did not say why negotiations broke down, but rumor has it that Slimane wanted to launch his own women’s wear label, while remaining at the helm of Dior Homme.

Slimane started at Dior in 2000. He is famous for his skinny cuts, though he started to move away from that with the fall collection he showed in Paris in January.
