The handicapping continues concerning which designer will be tapped to replace Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, with a French newspaper reporting that the top candidate for the job is Alexander Wang (Times fashion critic Booth Moore did a 2011 profile of the designer). The last name floated in the rumorsphere was Christopher Kane. [The Cut]

Kane was the designer of Versace’s Versus diffusion line before departing earlier this month. Instead of replacing him with a single designer, the company opted to go with a revolving roster. The company announced Thursday that the first on deck will be London-based designer Jonathan Anderson.

The announcement included the following brief biography of Anderson: “Born in Northern Ireland in 1984, Jonathan William Anderson studied menswear at the London College of Fashion, Graduating in 2005. He launched the J.W. Anderson fashion label in 2008 with a men’s collection which several years later was accompanied by a women’s collection. Jonathan won the Emerging Talent Award for Ready-to-Wear at the 2012 British Fashion Awards.”

L.A.-based designer Monique Lhuiller celebrated the opening of her new Manhattan boutique Wednesday night, taking a socialite-heavy crowd on a tour of the two-story space, which is located in a brownstone on 71st Street between Fifth and Madison avenues. The designer wore a gold dress from her fall collection and was accompanied by her husband (and company CEO) Tom Bugbee. [WWD]

Lindsay Lohan was arrested early Thursday morning (very early -- around 4 a.m. EST) after officials said she punched a woman in a nightclub. No word on whether the alleged punch was preceded by a critique of Lohan’s recent performance in Lifetime’s “Liz & Dick.” [TMZ]
