To celebrate “Saturday Night Live’s” 40th anniversary, Ben & Jerry’s decided to make two new flavors inspired by “SNL” sketches. Introducing Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch, inspired by none other than Gilly, and Lazy Sunday, a salute to the unforgettable digital short “The Lazy Sunday.” Both flavors are now available at Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops.

Gilly, the Kristen Wiig character who can’t stop biting her bottom lip, or getting into trouble, was one of the best hot messes on the show. Her flavor is a crunchy, chewy, gooey combination of chocolate and sweet cream ice creams, caramel clusters, fudge-covered almonds and a marshmallow swirl.

“Hey Gilly, did you eat all this ice cream?”

“What?”

“Sorry.”

After receiving a couple of test pints in the mail, we all agreed that Gilly’s Catastrophic Crunch needed to be finished, immediately.

The Lazy Sunday flavor aims to re-create the genius of the Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell pairing in “The Lazy Sunday” sketch, with a vanilla cake batter ice cream base, chocolate and yellow cupcake pieces and a chocolate frosting swirl.

The pieces of cupcake were fun to pick out, making a clear connection to the duo’s love of Magnolia cupcakes in the sketch, but where are the Mr. Pibb and Red Vines? And we bet a scoop would taste even better while watching “The Chronicles of Narnia.”

Double true!

Ben & Jerry’s plans to release two more “SNL”-inspired flavors later this year.
