Prices for top Barbaresco and Barolo are out of reach for most of us except for the most special of occasions, but this basic Barbaresco from one of the best little cooperatives in the world is always a great bargain, even more so from the great 2009 vintage.It’s got everything going for it: bright fruit, herbal notes, defined structure and soft, ripe tannins. It’s ready to drink now, but you can also hang on to it for a few years.

Break a bottle out for a barbecue, for a roast leg of lamb or a brasato (braised beef). It’s a beautiful match for pasta with a duck ragù or Bolognese sauce too.
