Venice Meet; Chinatown Summer Nights; Cecconi’s porchetta

The Venice Meet returns: The Venice Meet returns to Abbot Kinney Boulevard, just blocks from the beach, this Saturday. Participating restaurants include the health-conscious FEED Body + Soul, Waiola Burger, Roll n’ Lobster, Stuffed Crepe, Rice Creamery and S’cream Truck. Guests can also bring their children to the Westminster Elementary School play yard, take advantage of the complimentary dog-sitting services, peruse other vendors’ wares and enjoy the music of Salt Petal, Cameron Hovsepian and Nikki O’Neill Band. Chinatown Summer Nights: This Saturday is Chinatown Summer Nights. The Central and West Plaza fair includes food trucks, local vendors, cooking demonstrations, Chinese cultural activities, music from KCRW’s DJs and even a soup-eating competition. Participating food trucks include Ludo Bites, Flying Pig, Don Chow’s, Frysmith, Pigs Feet Under, Arleen’s Cupcakes, Crepe N Around, Fluff Ice, Munchie Machine, Nonna’s Kitchenette, TaBom Truck and Yalla Truck. A craft beer garden will be curated by Eagle Rock Brewery, offering Groundworks Coffee Porter from Smog City Brewery and Trois Filles Tripel from Ladyface Ale Co., among other selections. Porchetta roast for Ferragosto: Cecconi’s and chef Andrea Cavaliere are hosting a porchetta roast this Sunday in honor of the Italian holiday, Ferragosto. The tradition dates back to the Roman times, marking the time of the year when Italians took a break from the bustling city life to retreat to beaches, mountains and countryside. Ferragosto is celebrated with a porchetta, a pig that has been deboned, stuffed with garlic, rosemary, fennel and other herbs, and roasted over an open fire. At Cecconi’s guests will be treated to roast pork, applesauce, wood oven roasted potatoes and pork crackling. 2 p.m. until the porchetta runs out. $26 per plate.
