National Grilled Cheese Day: Where to satisfy your craving

Friday is National Grilled Cheese Day, the best of all food holidays, ever. And to celebrate, we have an entire day full of ways you can get your fill of crispy, butter-grilled bread and ooey, gooey cheese. We’re whipping up grilled cheese trivia, our staff favorites, the best libations to pair with your sandwich, 12 recipes and, to start off, here’s a list of places around town offering grilled cheese specials for the big day.

Rock & Reilly’s Irish Pub on Sunset is serving up five grilled cheese specials Friday, National Grilled Cheese Day. A bacon, guacamole grilled cheese; corned beef grilled cheese with Guinness caramelized onions; fried green tomato grilled cheese; mac-and-cheese grilled cheese; and a jalapeño popper grilled cheese will be available for $10 each from 4 to 10 p.m. 8911 W. The Counter Custom Built Burgers is known for burgers, but the restaurant is celebrating National Grilled Cheese Month with custom grilled cheese sandwiches and weekly specials. The specials include “The Kicker” (April 8-14), made with Tillamook cheddar, jalapeño jack, jalapeños and tomatoes on Texas toast with chipotle aioli; “The Caprese” (April 15-21), with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, julienned basil and balsamic glaze on Texas toast; and “The French Onion” (April 22-28), made with gruyere cheese and caramelized onions served on Parmesan sourdough bread. The special grilled cheese sandwiches are available for $7 at all the Counter locations. There are 14 locations in the Los Angeles area that can be found at TheCounterBurger.com/

At Muddy Leek in Culver City, they’re serving up a special Manchego and speck grilled cheese for $11. 8631 Washington Blvd., Culver City, (310) 838-2281, MuddyLeek.com.

The Melt! grilled-cheese-centric chain is giving away 10,000 free grilled cheese sandwiches. The first 10,000 people to sign up at EatCheese.com by Friday will receive a code for a free melt valued at up to $6.75. There are three locations in the Los Angeles area that can be found at TheMelt.com

At TLT Food & Drink in Westwood, chef Daniel Shemtob is offering surf and turf grilled cheese sandwiches with blue crab, short rib and cheddar cheese. The special sandwich is available April 12-14 for $8. 1116 Westwood Boulevard
