Jeannine Stein:
We got a bunch of emails from fans who couldn't make the chat today, and many are frustrated because they can't seem to start an exercise program. Although it seems simple enough to start walking or join a gym, what advice would you give them?

Bob Harper:
When it comes to getting started i highly recommend that you start off small and build from there. If you start by changing your diet and then gradually incorporate fitness. it is the best way. Don't change everything all at once.

Hi Bob! I have been using your dvds for 5 weeks now (usually 3-4 times/week), but I don't feel that I´m getting any stronger, and my cardio doesn't seem to become any better. I really push myself and try to do better and more every time, but I don't notice any difference. What should I do? You rock, hugs Josephine!

11:05
Bob Harper:
Hey Josephine. When it comes to those "plateaus" you really need to take a hard look at what you are eating!! Diet is extremely important...

As hard as you are working out in the gym, should be as hard as you focus on your diet.

Here's a question from Josefin in Sweden, via email:

I'm 20 years old and have seen almost every episode of the Biggest Loser, and have been very inspired by the contestants and by you Bob and by Jillian. During the last year I lost 25 kg, I now weigh 60 kg to my 170 cm (I think it is equal to 132 lbs and 5 feet 7 inches). However, even if the weight is perfect in my opinion now, I still have a "muffin-top" and thighs that isn't what I expect at this weight. I don't want to lose any more weight, how do I sculpt my body without losing more weight?
Monday March 28, 2011 11:06 Jeannine Stein

You gotta mix things up to achieve the results you might be looking for so by all means, work hard but remember to eat right, get sleep and find time for those mid level workouts too.

Jeannine Stein:
Here's a question emailed from Hayley Suska, and this is about an issue many people have--losing the last ten to 15 pounds:

What I can do to lose that last bit of weight, like 10-15 pounds? I have been active for a long time now. I take lots of classes, including Step, Spin, Body Pump, Zumba, and weight train by myself, and run too.

No matter how active i am I can't lose the last amount of weight. I'm not about to starve myself either. My diet could do with a little tweaking, but not too much. What would be your suggestion? My workouts get pretty intense, so it's not like I don't work hard.
Monday March 28, 2011 11:21 Jeannine Stein
11:22
Bob Harper:
Hey Hayley...the last 10-15lbs are the hardest to lose!!!!
Monday March 28, 2011 11:22 Bob Harper
11:22
Bob Harper:
You have to bump up your workout intensity, you might not be eating enough and have to get more food in, which sounds counter productive....
Monday March 28, 2011 11:22 Bob Harper
11:23
Bob Harper:
but it's not...you have to mix things up. Those last pounds are considered "vanity pounds" and they want to stick around!!!!

If you have never run before Rebeca, you have to ease into it....get yourself a really good pair of running sneakers and start a jog/walk program....
Monday March 28, 2011 11:28 Bob Harper
11:29
Bob Harper:
It could be that you try jogging for 3/5 minutes and then walk for 2 minutes....build up your stamina and strength that way...I find that this method works the best.

How do you balance working hard enough to make a difference with not creating injury (I tore my ACL, MCL, & Meniscus then a year later got back to working out hard to lose weight and developed tendonitis in my arch)? How do you know how hard to push when you're just getting started?
Monday March 28, 2011 11:31 Jeni
11:32
Bob Harper:
Jenny, you gotta really listen to your body and, while I want you to work hard, I don't want you to injure yourself because that will set you back....

11:32

I think that supplements are essential to your body because it is virtually impossible to get everything that your body needs through food alone. Make sure you are taking at least a multivitamin every single day....

I have the worst balance in the world. I've done Yoga, but I never get better. I can't stand on one leg for more than 5 seconds usually without being ready to topple over. Yoga also makes my body ache for days!!!! But beginners yoga is too easy for me. What should I do?

I would highly suggest that you make it a top priority to better your balance. Work on your core/ab strength. the stronger your mid section, the better your balance....

Is it ever too late? I mean are you ever so far out of shape that it's impossible to get in shape on your own without professional help?

Don't ever give up on yourself and stop looking for an excuse to hide behind. Go out there and get whatever it is that you are wanting....You are worth the change.
