The Venice Poster Gallery, a roving pop-up featuring vintage movie posters, opens Friday evening at home decor store Merchant in Santa Monica.

Stephanie Stuart, the owner of Venice Poster Gallery and of the Golden State Store on Rose Avenue in Venice, has been collecting movie posters for two decades and has amassed a collection of more than 600 pieces from the silent film era through the 1980s.

“I’m the daughter of a film editor,” Stuart said. “I grew up appreciating these posters as art pieces and have been adding to my collection for years.”

Friday’s show will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. and will feature posters from the 1960s and ‘70s. The highlight of the show is a large-scale poster from the film “Easy Rider.” “It’s a six sheet [81 by 81 inches] and will easily take up the entire north wall of the space,” she said.

Denise Portmans, owner of Merchant, which opened in March, hosts art openings on the last Friday of every month. Her shop showcases furniture and home decor from the 1960s and ‘70s.

“These posters mix beautifully with the pieces in my shop. It’s nice for people to see how visually compelling the posters can be in a home setting,” Portmans said.

Posters will be priced from $200 to $10,000 and on view through Aug. 28.
