Arnold Schwarzenegger
There are few successes like Schwarzenegger. But being governor of California has been his biggest challenge in life. He underestimated his political enemies last year, and then enraged them with a special election that voters soundly rejected. Now he is playing catch-up during a re-election year. He has undoubtedly shifted to the left in this heavily Democratic state, while trying to maintain a Republican stance with a no-new-taxes pledge. The frenzy of the 2003 recall catapulted Schwarzenegger to public office without a grueling primary. Now he faces his first real electoral test without porn stars on the ballot.
