2008 Lamborghini Reventón

Share
Special to the Los Angeles Times

OVERVIEW

Part car, part fighter plane. The Reventón is based on the Murciélago LP640, the most potent version of that car. But with its TFT liquid-crystal displays and G-force meter, the cockpit looks more suited to aerial combat than for the intersection of Wilshire and San Vicente. The body has been completely redesigned and clothed with carbon fiber panels.

The mid-mounted engine has a transparent cover for the faithful to drool over, and the transmission is robotized. Only 20 cars have been produced, each priced at the equivalent of nearly $1.5 million. All have been sold. Damn.

OUR TAKE

Wonderfully over-the-top and tragically unavailable, the Reventón is one of those poster cars destined for the bedroom walls of car-mad boys. And probably the screensavers for the computers of car-mad men. Thank goodness there are companies still making this kind of thing.
