Rep. John Dingell of Michigan was hospitalized in Detroit on Monday, his office said.
Dingell, the longest-serving member of the House, was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital with abdominal pain, according to a statement from his spokesman, who said the Democratic lawmaker is being treated with antibiotics “and remains in good spirits.”
According to the statement, doctors expect Dingell, 88, to be released from the hospital in a few days, and be back in Washington by next week.
Dingell was also hospitalized earlier this year and underwent surgery to correct an abnormal heart rhythm.
Dingell has been in office since December 1955. He announced his plans to retire earlier this year, after nearly 60 years in office.
His wife, Debbie Dingell, is running for his seat this fall.
