November 4, 2008: General Election ballot

President of the United States:
Nominees from the two major parties will not be finalized until the Democratic National Convention August 25-28 in Denver and the Republican National Convention September 1-4.

The presumptive nominees:
  Republican — John McCain
  Democrat — Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama

Times endorsements in February 8 California primary:
  John McCain
  Barack Obama
  Times editorial advising Hillary Clinton to withdraw

California ballot measures:
Three initiatives — dealing with treatment of farm animals and bonds for passenger trains and children's hospitals — have qualified for the Nov. 4 ballot. Fifteen others, including one to restrict the definition of marriage and one to change the way legislative districts are drawn, are undergoing signature counting and verification.
