Civil War: In the Dec. 20 Section A, the photo caption with an article about the role of African Americans in the Civil War identified the men pictured as A.M. Chandler, who fought on the side of the Confederacy, with “fellow slave” Silas Chandler. A.M. Chandler was not a slave; Silas was the Chandler family’s slave, who accompanied A.M. during his military service.

Don Newcombe: In the Dec. 20 Sports section, a column about Dodgers legend Don Newcombe described him as the first African American pitcher to win a World Series game. Newcombe was the first African American pitcher to start a World Series game, but he did not win one.

Newport Beach church: In the Dec. 26 California section, a photo accompanying an article on St. James the Great Episcopal Church was credited to the Daily Pilot. It should have been credited to Susan Hoffman.

“The Hateful Eight”: In the Dec. 25 Calendar section, a box accompanying a review of “The Hateful Eight” listed its release date as Jan. 1. The film is in wide release starting Dec. 31.

“Thin Man”: In the Dec. 27 Calendar section, an article about “The Thin Man” marathon on TCM identified the network as TMC.
