Genetic testing: In the Dec. 15 Business section, a column about the genetic testing company 23andMe misstated Google co-founder Sergey Brin’s risk of Parkinson’s disease. Although researchers differ, Brin’s genetic profile suggests that his lifetime risk of acquiring the disease is at least 15 times that of the general public, not 1.3 to 1.75 times. The column also said that a letter from the Food and Drug Administration instructing the firm to submit information on the analytical or clinical validity of its genetic tests and to seek the FDA’s approval was sent in June. The letter was dated June 10, 2010, not last June.

Navy sonar training: In the Dec. 17 LATExtra section, an article about the Navy obtaining approval to use sonar in training exercises off Southern California and Hawaii included an incorrect byline. The article was written by Times staff writer Tony Perry, not Tony Barboza.

College football: A photo caption that accompanied a column in the Dec. 15 Sports section referred to Boston College’s Andre Williams as a quarterback. He is a running back.
