Two hikers stranded overnight on a steep cliff in Orange County have been rescued by helicopter.

Rescuers spotted 24-year-old Serena Neff and 33-year-old Carter McCoy at about 1:30 Sunday afternoon standing atop a cliff in Hot Springs Canyon in the Santa Ana Mountains. They were picked up, unhurt and in good condition.

Authorities had been in contact with the hikers via cell phone, but were unable to reach them because of bad weather.

The hikers called late Saturday and said they were lost in the rugged section of Cleveland National Forest, about 13 miles east of San Juan Capistrano.

They were taken to a hospital for observation, and released hours later.
