On the night of March 27, 2007, Schulman found a mattress propped against a bright blue dumpster behind a Trader Joe’s in Encino. He knocked the mattress onto the pavement and drifted off to sleep. He awoke to the loud sound of a big rig, which rolled over his legs. Schulman was found dead Aug. 17, 2010, less than a year after winning a settlement from the trucking company after a long and difficult journey.
