Bear found wandering in vacant home ‘refused to leave’

A bear spotted wandering in a vacant house in Bradbury was tranquilized after it “refused to leave on its own terms,” the Sheriff’s department said.

A neighboring resident called about a bear roaming in the empty home in the 200 block of Barranca Road Sunday morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies attempted to scare the 250 to 300 pound bear back to its habitat, but the animal “was not amused” and did not react, officials said.

After several futile attempts, the Department of Fish and Wildlife was called to the scene, and it determined the bear appeared to be sick or injured. When the bear finally exited the house, it took three tranquilizing darts to sedate it, according to the Sheriff’s department.

Fish and Wildlife transported the sleeping bear to an animal hospital for observation and treatment.
