Bieber egging probe in D.A.’s hands; felony prosecution sought

Justin Bieber should find out soon whether he will face felony vandalism charges in the alleged egging of a neighbor’s home after Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives turned over their investigation to prosecutors Thursday.

Labeling Bieber a suspect in the early January incident, detectives served a felony search warrant looking for “video surveillance or other relevant evidence” that the singer was involved in the incident.

Authorities said the incident was classified as a felony because the homeowner in 25000 block of Prado Del Grandioso in Calabasas said the damage totaled $20,000.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, said the completed investigation report had been received, but no decision had been made on the whether charges would be filed.

Sources on Thursday said sheriff’s investigators are seeking a felony prosecution against the singer. A felony charge would be most serious run-in with the law yet for the 19-year-old Bieber.

He was arrested in Florida on Jan. 23 and later charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving without a license. Last week, Bieber surrendered to Toronto police on an assault allegation involving a limousine driver.

Through his attorney, Bieber has denied any wrongdoing in the alleged egging.

The neighbor told authorities that he was home with his daughter at the time and witnessed the incident. Authorities have said they don’t know what might have prompted the alleged egging.

Sheriff’s investigators turned over the investigation to the district attorney’s office after previously consulted with a prosecutor over how to bolster the chances of the criminal charges being filed.
