Earthquake off Malibu coast downgraded to magnitude 3.1

A shallow earthquake nearly 30 miles off the coast of Malibu on Friday morning was downgraded to a magnitude 3.1, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at 6:24 a.m. at a depth of about a quarter-mile.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 31 miles from Port Hueneme and 34 miles from Oxnard.

There were no reports so far on the USGS’ “Did You Feel It?” Web page of anyone feeling the quake.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
