Police in Montebello are searching for a man who wore a clown mask when he robbed a woman at knifepoint, and authorities on Thursday released video of the crime in an effort to identify the suspect.

The robbery took place on Oct. 29 in a parking garage in the 1600 block of Neil Armstrong Street, according to the Montebello Police Department.

A woman had parked her car just after 8 p.m., and as she walked through the garage, a man ran up to her from behind and grabbed her with his left hand, police said.

In his other hand, the robber brandished a small knife and demanded the woman’s belongings. He threatened to kill her if she did not obey, police said.

The woman handed over a bag containing her laptop, but as the suspect turned away, she pleaded for him to return the computer.

The robber stopped, turned around and snatched her purse as well, according to the surveillance video.

The man, who was described as about 20 years old and wearing the clown mask and a Dodgers hat, fled on foot along Neil Armstrong Street, police said.

The man was also wearing a black sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the suspect was asked to contact Montebello police Det. Paul Antista at 323-887-1200.
