Los Angeles police said they had no active investigation into what prompted rapper Andre Johnson to sever his penis and jump from a North Hollywood apartment building early Wednesday.

Johnson, 40, raps under the moniker “Christ Bearer” as part of the duo Northstar, which was linked to the Wu-Tang Clan. He survived the fall from the building’s second story, but the extent of his injuries was not known.

Officers were called to the 4100 block of Colfax Avenue about 12:45 a.m., and discovered Johnson with a self-inflicted wound to his genitalia, LAPD Sgt. William Mann said. Paramedics responded and took Johnson to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

LAPD Officer Bruce Borihanh said Thursday that the responding officers “determined it was an injury report and no crime was involved.” While the LAPD will look into such reports, he said, any follow-up is primarly handled by medical officials.

“It was just an injury report,” he said of the incident. “The rest would be medical stuff that deal with the Fire Department or the hospital.”

According to the Wu-Tang Clan’s website, rapper RZA discovered the Long Beach-based Northstar outside an L.A. radio station in 1998. Just a day before the incident, Johnson posted on Facebook and Twitter links to a new music video with rapper Rugged Monk.
