People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who police say slammed a small dog to death against a Boyle Heights sidewalk.

No arrests had been made Wednesday afternoon in connection with the dog’s death, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“This little dog endured an agonizing, terrifying death when his head was bashed against the sidewalk by a disturbed and violent man,” PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said in a statement. “PETA is urging anyone with information about this man to come forward now so that he can be held accountable for his crimes and stopped from hurting anyone else.”

The minivan driver got out of the vehicle and chased the dog until he finally caught it.

He then punched the dog and bashed it against the sidewalk until it died, police said.

The driver returned to his vehicle and drove off, leaving the dog behind. But the witness took a photograph of the man’s vehicle.

Resident Andrew Vizcarra told KTLA-TV he was sitting in a nearby park when he saw the gruesome attack.

The driver, he said, “just left it there dead.”
