Power restored in South Bay
Electricity was restored in the South Bay on Sunday afternoon after several downed power lines caused a widespread outage that left more than 115,000 customers in the dark for hours.
By 2 p.m., only three homes in Torrance were still without power, said Southern California Edison spokesman David Song.
The massive outage occurred at 7 a.m. when the downed power lines knocked out a Southern California Edison substation in Torrance, causing a large swath of the South Bay to lose power.
Power went out in Torrance, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, south Redondo Beach, northwest San Pedro and Lomita. But Torrance was hardest hit, with more than 83,000 affected by the outage.
Marvin Jackmon, a public affairs manager for Southern California Edison, said transmission lines at 190th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard had fallen onto distribution lines. It was not clear what had caused the lines to fall.
