The arc of a tunnel on Mt. Hollywood Drive creates a nice frame for Griffith Observatory in this smart double-exposure by Lauren Rudich. A double-exposure is made by exposing the same frame twice, causing one image to appear superimposed over another.

Rather than becoming unusable, film that is past its expiration date can instead produce unpredictable and sometimes pleasing effects. Rudich said the photograph was made on Kodak Portra that “I believe was expired in 2006.”
