Sunny skies and warm temperatures Thursday will be followed this weekend by clouds and cooler weather, forecasters say.

Mountain, valley and desert regions may hit triple digits Thursday, but relief should come in the next few days, said David Sweet, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

High temperatures in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday should range from the mid-80s to around 90 and will fall to the lower to mid-80s on Friday.

At the beaches, high temperatures will be in the 70s Thursday and will fall to the lower to mid-70s Friday.

Temperatures will drop further still on Saturday, which will be mostly cloudy all day, Sweet said.

A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast for overnight Sunday and Monday morning.
