Wildfire burns 750 acres in northeast San Diego County
A controlled burn that got out of control due to a wind shift has burned more than 750 acres in northeast San Diego County, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection announced Thursday night.
The San Felipe fire is burning in a largely unpopulated desert area north of California 79 and east of Julian. No structures are threatened and no injuries have been reported, the agency said.
The fire is 30% contained, the agency said.
Agency officials had expected to burn about 114 acres of brush when the wind shift occurred. The fire is being fought by tankers and helicopters. Officials ordered five engines from Fresno to move to the fire about 7 p.m.
