A body was discovered Thursday morning in the Hollenbeck Park lake in Boyle Heights, authorities said.

Los Angeles police were called to East 4th Street and South Louis Street about 10:15 a.m. after a person walking on the path along the lake saw what appeared to be a body floating in the water, said Los Angeles police Capt. Martin Baeza.

From the position of the body, authorities could not immediately discern whether it was a man or a woman, he said.

“We don’t know if it was a suicide ... we don’t know if somebody jumped in there, and we don’t know if someone was pushed,” Baeza said. “We’re taking all the steps to investigate the situation.”

An LAPD dive team, along with homicide detectives and coroner’s officials, were at the scene.

The dive team plans to use cameras to assess the condition of the body, Baeza said.
