Second winner of record Powerball jackpot claims prize, officials say

A winning ticket has been presented in the record Powerball lottery, Arizona officials said Friday, but the identity of the lucky player will remain secret for a while.

Officials have scheduled a news conference at 3 p.m. local time in Phoenix to discuss the winning ticket -- one of two in the nation -- but the winner will not be present, a spokeswoman for the Arizona Lottery told the Los Angeles Times by telephone.

The ticket, purchased at a convenience store in Fountain Hills, near Phoenix, is worth half of the $587.5-million jackpot.

The winner has already decided to take the immediate cash option, the lottery official said. That works out to $192 million.

During the news conference, officials will discuss some background information, such how the person felt when learning of the win, the lottery spokeswoman said.

Eventually, the name of the winner will be made public after media outlets file expected freedom-of-information requests.

Two winning tickets were sold in the multistate Powerball drawing on Nov. 28. The jackpot was a record for the game and the second-largest in U.S. history.

Mark and Cindy Hill, a Dearborn, Mo., mechanic and his wife, have claimed the other half of the prize. They also took the immediate cash payout.
