PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Fire officials in Arizona said Wednesday that the Yarnell Hill fire had steadied and that conditions had improved enough for damage assessment teams to deploy and take stock of the toll.

The crews fighting the blaze were bolstered by an improvement in weather conditions, including less wind and overnight rain that helped the 550 firefighters working the blaze improve containment lines, said Brad Pitassi, a spokesman for the Southwest Area Incident Management Team.

“Containment is going to rise over the next few days,” he said.

He said the fire remained at 8% contained Wednesday, and there had been no new injuries or evacuations.

Damage assessment teams have also been able to get into areas Wednesday that had previously been considered too dangerous.
