McDonald’s has been under fire for promoting cheap, unhealthful food for kids and contributing to rising childhood obesity. And lately the fast-food chain has been in the spotlight for across-the-board low wages for workers. A recent study found that more than half of the fast-food workers in the country receive some form of public assistance.
While many food companies have begun to phase out trans fats, many of Pillsbury’s most beloved items, from cookie dough to pizza crust to cake mix, are still loaded with the unsaturated fat that is considered the worst of the worst for health. There’s even a Change.org petition urging the company to give up trans fats.
Could Nickelodeon’s yellow sponge from Bikini Bottom be bad for kids’ brains? Research released in 2011 found that 4-year-olds who had just watched the cartoon did worse on tests of attention and problem-solving than children who watched a slower-paced educational program or spent time drawing.
