Jerry Brown makes good on Super Bowl wager
SACRAMENTO -- Gov. Jerry Brown is making good on his Super Bowl wager.
After the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, the California governor was on the hook to send Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley a copy of “California: The Great Exception” by Carey McWilliams.
Brown made the wager via Twitter, and his spokesman confirmed Tuesday that, indeed, the book is in the mail.
Brown sent O’Malley a first edition of the book, purchased from Bibliomania in downtown Oakland. According to Brown spokesman Evan Westrup, Brown shelled out $24.53 of non-taxpayer money for the book.
The original listing described the book’s condition as “very good, in light worn dust wrapper with some chipping at the edges and foxing on rear panel.”
No word yet on whether O’Malley will actually read the book when he receives it, but the two can discuss it at next week’s meeting of the National Governors Assn. in Washington, D.C.
