Menopause the Musical

Hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings. A woman can laugh or cry. At the Luxor Las Vegas, hot mamas are doing a lot of the former at “Menopause the Musical,” the hilarious musical sendup of the rite of passage not known for offering up many laughs.

The plot has four middle-aged women with seemingly nothing in common meeting in a tussle over a sale-rack brassiere at Bloomingdale’s. It turns out our Earth Mother hippie, hard-charging professional woman, aging soap star and Midwestern mom share a lot — the manifold miseries wrought by menopause. Behold the birth of a mutual commiseration society. Tales of woe unfold through musical parodies of pop hits from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. “Chain of Fools” becomes “Change of Life,” “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” “My Guy” becomes “My Thighs,” “Good Vibrations” becomes, well, you get the idea.
