City: Dispose of sandbags in proper way

Share

Though the rainy season isn’t over, the city wants Laguna Beach residents to know they can dispose of filled sandbags — and drop off unfilled bags to be recycled — at the Act V lot on Laguna Canyon Road.

“We are still in an El Niño season but wanted to be ahead of the game with a disposal location,” Jordan Villwock, the city’s emergency operations coordinator, wrote in an email. “Sandbags are sometimes misunderstood. They don’t have the typical beach sand that some people believe they have. It’s more like a gravel mixture. Therefore they need to be disposed of properly.”

Residents can also dispose of up to 10 filled sandbags by scheduling a pickup at their houses. Each resident is allotted three bulky item pickups per calendar year. Up to 10 items may be collected at one time.

To schedule a pickup, contact Waste Management at (949) 642-1191. Filled sandbags should not be placed in the trash or recycling carts.

The Act V lot is located at 1900 Laguna Canyon Rd.

As of Thursday, no rain was forecast in Laguna in the next 10 days, according to the Weather Channel.
