Laguna picks new assistant city manager and public works director

Laguna Beach has a new assistant city manager and public works director, the city announced this week.

Shohreh Dupuis, Irvine’s deputy public works director, has been chosen to fill both roles, vacated when Ben Siegel became San Juan Capistrano’s city manager in early February.

Dupuis has more than 25 years of involvement with municipal government and public works in Orange County. Before joining the city of Irvine in 2008, Dupuis was Anaheim’s transit manager and the Orange County Transportation Authority’s manager of commuter rail and local programs for Measure M, the county’s half-cent sales tax that funds freeway and road improvements.

“Shohreh’s experience with regional transportation agencies and complex capital projects really set her apart from other candidates,” Laguna City Manager John Pietig said in a news release. “I look forward to bringing Shohreh on board and working with her and the department to elevate the delivery of services and projects to the community.”

Dupuis earned a bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from UC Irvine and has received several awards for “dedication to teamwork, customer service and outstanding performance,” the release said. Dupuis will move to Laguna from her current home in Anaheim Hills and will start May 2.

“I am honored and excited to have been chosen to lead the public works department of my favorite city in Orange County,” Dupuis said in the release. “I look forward to directing the completion of the city’s major capital projects and working closely with the community to preserve and maintain the city’s beautiful beaches, parks, and infrastructure for generations to enjoy while providing outstanding customer service to Laguna Beach.”
